GOING OVERBOARD WITH THE HOVERBOARD

The decision to sanction the “hoverboarding” priest with a suspension is an overkill in my own estimate.

This whole ruckus erupted when a video of Fr. Albert San Jose serenading the mass attendees with a Christmas song, while standing on a hoverboard before the final blessing of a Christmas eve mass was posted on social media, which has gone viral after.

A MESSAGE FOR MISS COLOMBIA, FROM THE PHILIPPINES

Dear Ariadna,

We know how overwhelmingly bad you felt when the crown was taken from you, and was given to the rightful winner who is our very own Pia Wurtzbach. And with this, we and the rest of the world sympathize with you.

My First Gift This Christmas

Christmas is really just around the corner.

Last Tuesday, I received my first ever gift for this most celebrated season of the year.

First, it came with a nice bag:

Second, it was gingerly wrapped in fancy paper:

Lessons Learned From #AlDav

Move over a bit AlDub. Here’s AlDav for the meantime, and here are some lessons I learned from this new duo, when actress-turned-senatorial candidate Alma Moreno guested recently on Headstart hosted by broadcast journalist Karen Davila.

1. You don’t come to an interview unprepared. Going to an interview is like
going to a battlefield – be ready with all your ammunitions. Sadly, Alma
Moreno just brought a water gun with her.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD INTERVIEWER?

A senatorial candidate and a broadcast journalist made a historical buzz courtesy of their unpalatable encounter on the latter's cable program.

Sam Smith and Adobo Connection

And the million dollar question is: what is the connection?

Several months back, a colleague and I had our lunch at Adobo Connection at Super Metro Anonas. As usual, I ordered my favorite adobo flakes meal. When we sat down, a very nice upbeat song was being played which caught the attention of my senses, my ears most especially, and it was my first time to hear such song.

Grace Poe and Her Philosophical Blunder

Philosophy is the study of basic and ultimate principles – and this has always been my working definition for it, and will continue to be my working definition for as long as I can still speak and stand inside the classroom.

THE ARROGANT MANAGER AT MCDONALD'S

Yesterday, after some deliberation with a colleague as to where to have lunch, we ended up at McDonald’s Metro Anonas. Since it was lunch break, all counters were quite packed with customers, and we simply found ourselves falling in line at the counter nearest to us.

HOW TO COOK FRIED RICE WITH FEELINGS (ORIGINAL)

Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a wide pan. Pero yung katamtaman na init lang ha. Hindi yung kasing init na pagsasama natin noon. Unti unti ng lumalamig di ba?

Elha Nympha : The Birit Factor

I will go straight to the point: in any singing competition, it is always the birit factor that counts. I am not saying though, that one who has tremendous vocal and lung power will be the one to emerge as champion.

Yaya Dub : The MAINE Event

Yaya Dub, or Maine Mendoza in real life, is one of the most talked about Filipino personalities as of late. Thanks to her character in Eat Bulaga’s Kalye-Serye as nanny or yaya to Lola Nidora (played by Wally Bayola).

Health is Wealth : Pure Grapeseed Extract

Grapeseed supplements have long been in the market shelves. But it was only recently that I became interested in it. In all honesty, this awareness and interest at the same time are due largely to some friends who are multi-level businessmen who pursued me before.

And so I did a simple research about how beneficial to one’s health oil derived from grapeseed could be (www.seedguides.info/grapeseed-oil/).

And here are some of the many outstanding health benefits:

PBB 737 and MTRCB: My Two Cents

PBB 737 is one of the controversial editions of Pinoy Big Brother, what with the issues that it has spawned courtesy of the teen housemates themselves which has led to the intervention of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) as of late.

Allow me to give my two cents on the proposed measures to even out the program, which was badly shaken by recent controversies.

DILEMMA: Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako?

I delivered my final lecture for the semester yesterday, and one of the topics I discussed was the concept of dilemma. So what is a dilemma you might ask?

LESSONS I LEARNED FROM THE THE FIGHT OF THE CENTURY

1. Not all that glitters is gold

The Fight of the Century was several years in the making. And when Floyd and Manny finally sealed the deal, the boxing world rejoiced to the heavens! As boxing superstars in their own right, their recently concluded fight generated a tremendous amount of hype and publicity.

MARY JANE VELOSO'S FAMILY IS ON THE VERGE OF LOSING SYMPATHY FROM FILIPINOS

Mrs. Celia Veloso

We all had a sigh of relief when Mary Jane Veloso was not called to face the gruesome Indonesian firing squad a few nights ago. Her plight in a foreign land and her pending execution for alleged drug trafficking moved us, and captured our sympathetic hearts.

But not for long…..

Some Facts About Ariel's Commercial Jingle FINALLY

It cannot be denied that Ariel’s latest jingle “Finally” for its newest commercial is a big hit among Filipinos. It is actually just a plain commercial that features several women doing their laundry singing, yes, “Finally” alternately.

Yaya's Meal at Balesin Island Club : Discriminatory or Not?

Balesin Island Club is in hot water nowadays due to its now famous “yaya’s meal,” courtesy of a former beauty queen’s rants pertaining to it on her social media account. I didn’t know anything about this hullabaloo until a friend sent me a link to an article about it through a private message.

Why I Fear Holy Week

That time of the year that I dread the most has come – holy week.

My pronouncement I know sounds off-key to many ears, since why on earth I am saying this when you and the rest of the Christians out there look forward to it? The answer is very simple: I am one person who dislikes too many rituals. And my religion, in my own perception, overwhelms me with too many rituals, most especially during Lent.

WINNING IN THE HUDDLE by Stauro Punongbayan

I had the privilege to be invited to the book launching of WINNING IN THE HUDDLE, by the author himself no less, and my high school batchmate Stauro Punongbayan. The book launching took place last Saturday (February 28) at Right Start Center, 2nd West Crame St. in San Juan City.

Regrettably, my frenzied schedule even on a Saturday prevented me from attending it. To make up for it, I am promoting his book here in my humble blog:

The Road Back To Love.......

I’ll go straight to the point: the road back to love is a long and winding one.

It takes a great deal of time to be on track again. Most especially when for several years your thoughts and emotions have been conditioned by the heart to aim at just one thing, or one person.

Governor Salceda vs. Xian Lim : THE TALE OF THE SOUVENIR SHIRT

The rift between Xian Lim and Albay Governor Joey Salceda over the former’s alleged impolite behavior during an event in Albay has caught my attention.

The conflict arose from Xian’s refusal to accept Albayanon souvenir items that included a t-shirt, a coffee table book, a small bag, and some leaflets. Apparently, such items are the usual tokens given to distinguished visitors of the province.

On the Fallen 44: What Kris May Have Forgotten

Every time that our President becomes enmeshed in a controversy, expect his Queen-of-All-Media sister to be among the first few to throw the staunchest support.

Just recently, Kris Aquino unfollowed fellow celebrity Judy Ann Santos on Instagram, after the latter posted something not palatable to the former, with reference to PNOY’s absence during the arrival of the bodies of the so called Fallen 44 at Villamor Airbase last January 29.

ME AND ROBINSONS: ALL IS WELL THAT ENDS WELL

Last January 16, I got a surprise call from Robinsons. Being a holiday, I was just at home watching Pope Francis’ televised activities. It was my Aunt, however, who picked up the phone. And the caller I guess simply requested her to relay the message to me: that they extended the redemption period for the points I earned through my Value Plus card.

If you still remember, I created a furor about this matter when my card expired last December 31, 2014. This led me to write an article about it on this blog to express my disappointment, that nobody from Robinsons’ supermarket branch in Berkeley Square informed me of the expiry date beforehand, considering the fact that I frequent their place for my grocery shopping.

WHAT I ENDED UP BUYING AT THIS DRUG STORE

I did a little grocery shopping at Puregold along Holy Spirit Drive last week (1-29-15). And on my way to the parking area after my shopping, I dropped by Generika drug store to buy mefenamic acid.

So I asked the pharmacist if they have it. The lady told me that she will check their stocks. To my disappointment, she said that they ran out of the medicine that I wanted.

She then offered to me their branded mefenamic acid. I chose Dolfenal over Ponstan, because the former works for me best as of late, apart from the fact that it is cheaper than the latter.

YOU BE THE JUDGE: Trudis' Veterinarian Speaks Out

For the spirit of fairness, I am posting the reply of Trudis’ veterinarian to allegations of negligence on his part, for not having saved Trudis’ life, and her four puppies.

Here it is, lifted from the Facebook page of Philippine Animal Lovers Society (PALS), and you be the judge:

Trudis and Her Four Babies: A Tragedy

A younger Trudis - from the Facebook page of Ms. Jhen Bergonia

After Tyler, here is another case of canine casualty at the hands this time of a veterinarian.

Here is the story of Trudis, a beautiful cream-colored Chow Chow and the four babies inside her womb, lifted from the Facebook page of Ms. Jhen Bergonia, one of Trudis' humans:

The Trapper Keeper Generation

My very first Trapper Keeper looked like this, with a fine white checkered pattern

What Trapper Keeper generation?

I do belong to this generation. For the younger set, I know that you are not familiar with it. But for my contemporaries, I am more than certain that you do know what I am talking about.

Are you now excited?

A Total Stranger and My 100 Pesos

Last Saturday, my colleagues and I decided to take our lunch at the nearby Super Metro. We were at the basement lobby on our way to Adobo Connection, when a decent looking man with a woman in tow, called our attention.

STARTING THE NEW YEAR ON A SAD NOTE: JUSTICE FOR TYLER

I am posting here in my humble blog, a narrative about the tragedy that befell Tyler, a 4-year-old shih tzu, in a dog grooming facility just last week. As a dog lover myself, what happened to the poor dog and his human family was so heart wrenching, more so with the thought that Tyler is gone forever.

On Pope Francis' Visit to the Philippines : A Friendly Reminder

I know for sure that all Catholics in our country are all keyed up with the upcoming visit of Pope Francis this coming week. Add to that the declaration of a three-day holiday by Malacañang, no less (I guess I am more excited with this one haha).

THE DAY I FELT VALUELESS WITH MY ROBINSONS SUPERMARKET VALUE PLUS CARD

Earlier this afternoon, I did some grocery shopping at the Berkeley Square branch of Robinsons Supermarket along Commonwealth Avenue. To give you a bit of personal history, I’ve been doing most of my grocery shopping there for the last five years or so, since it is conveniently located on the south bound lane of Commonwealth where I pass by everyday on my way home.
