Yaya Dub : The MAINE Event

Yaya Dub, or Maine Mendoza in real life, is one of the most talked about Filipino personalities as of late. Thanks to her character in Eat Bulaga’s Kalye-Serye as nanny or yaya to Lola Nidora (played by Wally Bayola).

Her name Yaya Dub I assume is a spin-off of her title - Dubsmash Queen. In case you guys are still living under a lava rock, then let me inform you that she first gained a bit of prominence courtesy of her numerous dubsmash videos.

One thing has led to another, and she is now a member of Eat Bulaga, an institution as far as noontime shows are concerned. Then Alden Richards came into the picture, and our yaya became his other half in their accidental love team now popularly known as “Al-Dub”.

This pairing has made our yaya popular. Alden benefited too, as this made him all the more popular.

On a personal note, Maine Mendoza’s popularity and appeal transcend her dubsmashing prowess, her role as Yaya Dub, and her pairing with Alden Richards.

What makes her popular to me is that despite her elitista background, she chose to be kenkoy, through her numerous dubsmash videos prior to Eat Bulaga, and now through her dubsmashing antics as Yaya Dub.

For everybody's information, Maine is a Culinary Arts graduate of De La Salle’s College of St. Benilde. For her practicum, she went to New York and had her training at The Sagamore. With such stature, I think nobody would think of her landing on an unglamorous role on television delivering those crazy facial antics to the tune of dialogues and songs.

But she broke the stereotype, which for me endeared her to many people, both rich and poor. She appears to me as simple, humble, and not pa-sosyal.

We have already mentioned a lot of things about our yaya. But this is just the beginning. We wish her more MAINE events in her blossoming career.
