A Basic Question for Senator Leila de Lima

As of this writing, Philippine Senate’s feistiest member by the name of Leila de Lima is already at the PNP Custodial Center due to her alleged involvement in the proliferation of drugs at the New Bilibid Prison during her time as Justice Secretary.

The tormented Senator has refuted such allegation a number of times. However, all she did was to refute and maintain her innocence all this time. I was waiting for her to counter all the statements made by her accusers point by point, but all she did was to counter those with her one liners and diversionary tactics.

The DOJ has already a bulk of testimonies against her which led to the filing of charges and consequentially the issuance of warrant of arrest. But true to form, she contented herself with her one liners (“Inosente po ako……”).

Perhaps, she is just waiting for her day in court to answer all the charges for she knew beforehand that she will be facing trial anyway.

Her supporters-cum-critics of the Duterte administration are claiming that the charges stem from mere fabrications in order to stop her from investigating the so called Davao Death Squad and EJKs (extra judicial killings) resulting from the government’s war against drugs.

In other words, to silence the lady senator.

But whether the charges are true or not, or whether this whole thing was orchestrated or not, here is a basic question: WHY DID DRUG TRADING AT THE BILIBID FLOURISH DURING HER TIME? Was she not aware of it? Is it really possible for the then Justice Secretary not to be aware of the blatant goings-on inside the prison?

Sometimes, if not most of the time, basic or simple questions are the hardest to answer (just like those questions thrown at candidates during beauty pageants).

Do you agree my dear readers?
