Salvador Panelo’s guesting on ANC Channel’s Headstart
anchored by Karen Davila has become a hot topic, and a video of the interview
is viral now in social media.
For one, the meeting of two personalities coming from
opposing camps was a spectacle in itself – the flamboyant spokesperson of PRRD
in the person of Salvador Panelo, and the feisty journalist of the embattled
ABS-CBN in the person of Karen Davila.
Staunch supporters of the current administration are
all ecstatic about the turnout of the interview. Panelo’s responses to all the
questions of Davila pertaining to her station’s franchise renewal came in like
accurate and precise Russian missiles which caught the journalist flat-footed.
Davila was not able to get through and discuss her
agenda – the curtailment of press freedom and Duterte’s hand in the franchise
renewal, since she was easily quashed by Panelo by saying that such issues have no bearing whatsoever on the network's current woes, every time she would connect
such issues to the franchise renewal and the quo warranto her station is
facing.
But the real reason why the DDS are jubilant is
because Panelo had all the gall to tell straight to Davila’s face the
displeasure of PRRD towards the Lopez-owned station, specifically the unjust acts it committed last 2016. First,
ABS-CBN deliberately did not air then presidentiable Duterte’s campaign advertisements
despite the latter's payment of two million pesos. And second, the station defied a
temporary restraining order compelling the station not to air a paid advertisement
by Antonio Trillanes (Duterte's rabid nemesis) viciously attacking Duterte.
Panelo added further that the
network did not even resort to anything to appease the old man from Davao.
And so finally after a long time, such issues (the
station’s unjust acts towards Duterte last 2016) were dropped like a bomb before a
famous ABS-CBN personality, during a television broadcast, and inside the
territory of the enemy.
This is the reason why the DDS are still over the
moon.
Panelo’s straightforward answers, and Davila's collapse for misrepresenting things are mere bonuses.
