Amidst allegations of having numerous local and
offshore bank accounts, Senator Sonny Trillanes boldly declared his willingness
to sign a bank secrecy waiver that will give access to his alleged bank
accounts, to prove his earlier refutations of their existence.
Consequentially, he dared his accuser President
Rodrigo Roa Duterte to do the same with reference to the Senator’s allegation
of the latter’s purported P2.4 billion bank account.
The Chief Executive, however, did not give in to the
challenge of the Senator.
In my own opinion, PRRD will not respond to that very
lowly challenge by the feisty Senator. Not because he is afraid and hiding anything, but
simply because he will not allow himself to be lured into the trappings of the
whims and caprices of Trillanes.
The President is too busy and too wise for such fuss. Perhaps,
PRRD knows for a fact that the challenge thrown at him by Trillanes is all for
the latter’s hatred towards him and his family since day one of being President
(and even during the elections). And this not to mention Trillanes’ propensity
for political grandstanding.
However, if there is smoke, then there is
fire.
And so the burden is with Trillanes. As they say,
he who accuses has the burden of proof (which is the same thing that can be
relayed to the President with his same allegation). The question is, up to what length is the Senator willing to go to in the absence of a waiver from Duterte?
The alleged P2.4 billion bank account of PRRD could
become an open ended issue for the rest of his administration.
But again, he
will not respond to such a lowly challenge coming from a senator whose character has been put into question many times already,
who is perpetrating the challenge for his own personal gain, vindication and
vendetta.
