To Pan de Manila : WHERE'S THE CHEESE?

Can you find the cheese?

The first time that we tasted Pan de Manila’s cheese pesto pandesal was a few months back, when we had it as a pasalubong from my Aunt. I ate it for merienda and immediately took a liking for it because it tasted really good.

SALTED CREAM

I am not fond of milk, and I am not fond of tea as well. So put them together, and it will spell disaster as far as my taste buds are concerned. But out of curiosity since everybody seems to be all agog over milk tea, I got a bottled one from a convenience store many moons ago. As expected, it did not rhyme with my taste. Since then, I did not dare drink milk tea, no matter how tempting it is to get one, what with the different milk tea outlets that have mushroomed left and right.

Let's All Go to Shakey's

Let’s all go to Shakey’s…….

Shakey’s’ commercial jingle for its latest TVC, I must say, is very catchy and palatable to the ears. The more that I hear it on the radio and see the ad on TV, the more that I like and appreciate it. The song or jingle has a nice beat to it, which makes me melodiously suffer from what we call as “LSS” or last song syndrome. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Listening to the song triggers my brain to make that proverbial trip down memory lane.

MAGNUM PANDEMONIUM !!!

The internet is ablaze with all sorts of pictures and ponderings about an ice cream brand with a very intriguing name – MAGNUM. Before the introduction of this new product to the market, “magnum” is commonly associated with guns or firearms. But now, we associate it more with ice cream made of Belgian chocolate. I have only consumed not more than five bars of this ice cream product since the start of this Magnum phenomenon. Why? It is simply because convenience stores near our place have ran out of stock! This only shows that Magnum has become a hit to those with sweet tooth, which includes you and me.

I am not sure if people will side with me with this thought, but is it not the case all chocolate products taste the same? There could be variations in taste, color, and texture, but all of them have a generic taste due to a common ingredient which is chocolate. Following this line of thought, then Selecta’s Magnum could not in any way be different from Magnolia, Arce, Nestle, or Haagen Dazs chocolate flavored ice cream. But what could possibly explain the pandemonium over Magnum?

comfort + food = COMFORT FOOD !

"Comfort" is defined as a degree of physical or psychological ease. In my own words, I define comfort as “feeling good” – physically, psychologically, or both. You pair comfort with food, then it would mean food that makes you feel good, literally and figuratively. (click read more below)

Now You Know

1.Is French Toast from France?
No! It was invented at a roadside tavern near Albany, New York, in  1724, by a guy named Joseph French.
2.Did the Japanese invent Tempura?
No! Tempura was introduced to Japan by Jesuit missionaries in 1585. The word “tempura” comes from the Portuguese word temporras which means “Friday,” the day when deep-fried fish was eaten.
3.Is "Alfredo" in fettuccini alfredo a real person?
Yes! In 1920, Roman restaurateur Alfredo di Lelio first whipped up this rich fettuccini in a cream, butter, and Parmesan cheese sauce.
4.Is banana tree a tree?
No! Banana is a giant herb.
5.Is banana a berry?
Yes! Berries are identified as being many seeded with a fleshy inner layer. Have you not noticed this when you eat a banana?
6.Is there a difference between jam and jelly?
Yes! Jelly is made from fruit juice, while jam is made from cooked whole fruit.
7.Is the entire strawberry a fruit?
No! The tiny black seeds on the surface of the “berry” are the actual fruits. They are called “achenes” and each enclose a tiny seed.
8.Is cucumber really cool?
Yes! The inside of a cucumber can be 20 degrees cooler than the outside air. Why? Cucumbers are about ninety five percent water.
9.Do holes on crackers have a purpose?
While baking, such holes are needed for steam to escape, keeping the crackers flat and crisp. All crackers have holes, right?
10.Does peanut butter stick to the roof of your mouth?
It does, right? The high protein content of peanut butter draws moisture from the mouth, making it sticky.
11. Chicken or egg?
