This
celebrity-legislator (CL) recently made a circus out of the government chamber
where he belongs to via a privilege speech, which he laced heavily with
dramatic pronouncements, and a music-video presentation to boot. CL’s speech
comes at the wake of his pending arrest, due to his alleged involvement in the controversial
PDAF scam.
During
the course of his speech, CL threw rants towards MalacaƱang, accusing the Chief
Executive (CE) of political mudslinging. This leads me to the query of what has
led CL to think of CE this way? Does CE have anything to gain from it? The
answer is NOTHING unfortunately. I guess CE is just being true to his mandate
of going after corrupt officials in his administration. I just hope that he
will not spare the others facing the same accusation who are under his wing.
Is
CL trying to gain the sympathy of the public, to turn the table against his
accusers so that he becomes the proverbial underdog? Will his showbiz charisma
still work for him, which garnered him the second highest number of votes in the last elections?
He
may have earned the second highest number of votes, but this was during the pre
PDAF era. Times have changed and the Filipino public cannot be fooled this
time.
Every
time that a Filipino feels pain in the stomach due to hunger, every time a
Filipino feels frustration of not being able to go to school, and every time a
Filipino feels neglect in being denied of medical services, then that
Filipino will always remember how the PDAF scam has played a big role in such
miseries. The government funds that went to the pockets of the high and mighty
could have been used to upgrade and deliver basic social needs to him or her, and to the rest of us.
The
reality is that the crooks already have enough, more than enough even, but they still want more.
Unlike
in the movies, it may not be a happy ending for CL and his family if allegations will be proven to be true and concrete. As they say,
some good things never last, and he may soon bid goodbye to his ambition of a higher political post.
CL could rely though, on the forgiving nature of
Filipinos for a little amount of vindication.
But
to forgive is not the same as to forget.
