Some people walk into our lives unexpectedly,
just like a bird suddenly appearing on our window sill, much to our delight.
This is one of those things that life surprises us with. So we let them in, and
create memories and build life together as a consequence.
But not everybody stays for good. There are
those who will stay only for a while, and therefore leave soon. And the sad
truth is that in some situations, we continue to live life as if they have
never left us, making us cling to the past – like a moth to a flame.
We engross ourselves with both blissful and
hurting memories in the process. The heart remains hopeful that things will be
reverted back to the way they once were. But the swift passage of time and greatening emotional
distance make it not possible anymore.
There is still a connection somehow, for ties are not that easily severed. But the poignant reality is that things are not the way they used to be anymore.
Just like flame without heat, and cold sans
the shivers.
It takes a great deal of time to become accustomed
to it. But as we continue to traverse this journey called life, we get used to
it one day at a time, until it becomes merely a thing of the past.
Just like a distant star in the vast
universe.
But things do not happen randomly. There
must be a reason why they walked into our lives, and left. God has a purpose
why we allowed them in, and this is to gauge how far we can offer ourselves to
them for the sake of friendship, or something else deeper, and for how long we
can open our hearts to them.
Unfortunately, the virtue of reciprocity has become semioccasional nowadays. We feel crushed whenever people fail to give back. In my life, I have eventually learned not to expect anything in return, so as not to feel any trace of disappointment at the end of any given day.
And what consoles me, is the refreshing thought that a
divine journal takes note of all our good deeds, and that all of us will be
given a reward soon, in God’s perfect time.
Life will continue to surprise us with
people walking into our lives, unexpectedly. Some will stay, while some will
not. In either circumstance, many lessons will be learned that will enrich our
hearts further.
To make it even more kind, warm and
welcoming.
