RENATO CORONA AT THE MILLION PEOPLE MARCH: WRONG MOVE!

What was he thinking?

Former Chief Justice Renato Corona showed up with his family in tow at the “Million People March” held at the Luneta Park yesterday, August 26, 2013. The Corona family first stayed at the lobby of a nearby hotel, then proceeded to the Luneta grounds shortly after.

I am quite glad to know that he too, is rooting for the abolition of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), or the “pork barrel” in layman’s terms, which is now being perceived by many Filipinos as the root cause of massive corruption in the legislature.

But was it ethical for him to have showed up at the event?

Somebody Walked Into My Life

Some people walk into our lives unexpectedly, just like a bird suddenly appearing on our window sill, much to our delight. This is one of those things that life surprises us with. So we let them in, and create memories and build life together as a consequence.

But not everybody stays for good. There are those who will stay only for a while, and therefore leave soon. And the sad truth is that in some situations, we continue to live life as if they have never left us, making us cling to the past – like a moth to a flame.

We engross ourselves with both blissful and hurting memories in the process. The heart remains hopeful that things will be reverted back to the way they once were. But the swift passage of time and greatening emotional distance make it not possible anymore.

Janet Lim Napoles and the 10 Billion Pork Barrel Scam : The Plot is Thickening

Janet Lim Napoles’ display of wealth remains unmatched so far, what with her fleet of luxury cars, grand houses nestled in upscale neighborhoods, posh condominium units, properties abroad, and numerous businesses both local and overseas. How she amassed such wealth is now the object of public scrutiny, the aftermath of an expose made by her cousin Benhur Luy, about some of the NGOs and foundations that she established which allegedly received hefty amounts of financial aid siphoned from the pork barrel funds of some legislators. To add more insult to the injury, such NGOs and foundations are existing only by name – dummies to put it straightforwardly.

And where did all the money go? Your guess is as good as mine.

The Gilas Fans & Francis Bacon's Idol of the Tribe

So how did you react when the Gilas lost the match to the towering Iranians during the FIBA Asia Championship?

It was a little heartbreaking for me and disappointing at the same time to see the Gilas missing their shots, which the Iranians took full advantage of en route to their FIBA Asia championship win. Unluckily, our Gilas players were not able to replicate their previous stellar performance which saw them finally overpower the mighty Koreans after several attempts before. On a positive note, however, our beloved country is already assured of a slot in the FIBA World Cup to be held in Spain next year.

Marian Rivera: Loyal and Grateful

Marian Rivera’s contract with GMA 7 is set to expire this month of August. As expected, this has set tongues wagging as to whether or not she will renew her contract with her mother network. Every time a showbiz personality’s contract with a TV station is about to expire or has expired already, people come up with their own guesswork pertaining to whether that personality will stay or will transfer to another station. But I guess this is only the case when bigger and brighter network stars are involved. Remember the time when Sharon Cuneta signed her earthshaking Kapatid contract to the tune of one billion pesos?

The Moral Accountability of Celebrities

Consensual sex I believe is the highest form of intimacy. It is an act of total physical and emotional surrender, wherein 2 souls, not just bodies, become one. As espoused, however, by socio-religious norms, sex should be consummated within the boundaries or confines of marriage. Unfortunately, ubiquitous cases of adultery, teenage pregnancies, same-sex relationships, sexual abuse, and other related cases, have made the concept of sex not as sacrosanct anymore. Over the years, sex has been perceived by many people as a mere mechanical commodity. Something that is always readily available, since many people are more than willing to provide such pleasurable commodity.
