To John Lloyd Cruz: INGAT!

Social media are ablaze with recent videos of John Lloyd Cruz in various states of drunkenness.

Those were supposed to be private moments of him with his friends. Those were supposed to be for their exclusive consumption only. Sadly though, for one reason or another, such videos found their way online.

And people are lapping them up with gusto.

Before the age of social media, people do not have access whatsoever into the private life of celebrities. What we see on television, movies and magazines is simply what we get of them. But now, we are given a peek into their life outside of showbiz – thanks to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Whoever leaked the so called drunken videos clearly violated the actor’s privacy.

What celebrities do in private is simply none of our business. They are just as human as all of us, and therefore imperfect just like the rest of us. Maybe John Lloyd simply wanted to get away from it all, relax, just be himself and enjoy his vacation with friends.

One might raise the argument though that as a celebrity or public personality, he should have conducted himself appropriately. Very true indeed, as people have very high expectations towards famous individuals like John Lloyd.

In the videos I have watched however, he was drunk in the company of his friends only, not publicly in other words. And to restate my point, he did not create a public scandal.

The difference however is that his antics due to intoxication were recorded and were irresponsibly spread online.

Perhaps, a lesson for John Lloyd is to be careful next time in choosing his company or friends. He must choose those who will not take advantage of him.

And drink moderately if I may add.
