To Anne Curtis: You Cannot Turn Back the Hands of Time

Anne Curtis is an actress, TV host, model, endorser, and as of late, an aspiring “singer”. But she will not be remembered for the aforementioned predicates to her name “Anne Curtis.” So far, she will be remembered for her slapping rampage at Prive Luxury Club, early morning of November 23, 2013.

By now, I guess all of you already know the whole story and who were at the receiving end of her slapping spree. I was shocked with her behavior, caused by intoxication that brought to her perhaps the worst mishap in her life and career. Very unbecoming for someone perceived to be kind, well-mannered, sweet, and sophisticated.

Anne addressed the issue several days after the unfortunate incident, triggered by the report from Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) which got an exclusive scoop of the much talked about incident, thanks to one of her victims who willingly gave a blow-by-blow account.

In her twitter account, Anne mentioned that she has already apologized to the people involved, thereby owning up to her inappropriate conduct. It was a good move for her to confront the issue head-on as this is the only that thing that she could resort to doing. No point in denying the matter since the witnesses were the victims themselves, and one of them, as I have mentioned, even gave a blow-by-blow narration of the incident, much to the delight of critics and rumor mongers.

A lesson learned from this hullabaloo is that celebrities should be extra careful with their behavior in public due largely to their social and moral accountability as public figures. One fatal mistake can immediately alter the public’s perception of them, and erase the glorious memory of all their achievements and positive deeds. They all live a fish bowl existence wherein every move they make is always subject to scrutiny by the public eye. They will be praised for their achievements, and will be condemned for their wrongdoings.

Unfortunately, their mistakes are the ones which the public will always recall, and not the positive highlights in their career.

Admit it or not, the public is always on the look-out for mistakes that celebrities will commit, drunken or not, like a predator in search for a prey. This is a sad reality - an ugly side to the glamorous world of showbiz. Anne’s fans are sympathizing with her, while her critics are rejoicing to the heavens.

Anne, however, can find consolation in the idea that Filipinos have been genetically wired to be amnesiacs and forgiving at the same time. So let us expect her to be able to get away with it, and bounce back from her crisis in no time at all. I am sure as hell that she has realized that being drunk is not an excuse or a legitimate justification for bad behavior. As a public figure and a popular one at that, she should have guarded herself more during that fateful morning of November 23, 2013.

Sorry my dear, but you cannot turn back the hands of time.
