Ms. Leni Robredo grabbed the headlines once more with
her usual offhand remarks about the government. But her recent remarks were
something that did not sit well with President Duterte, for such remarks that
were unceremoniously and frostily uttered by her attacked fearlessly a core
mandate of the President no less – the war on drugs.
Since the first few weeks of his presidency, Duterte has been
working his fingers to the bone in order to put a halt to the vicious spread of
drugs in our country, a problem that has been plaguing our country for the
longest time. However, irregularities arose in the
process, thereby leading to criticisms. But no one, and nothing can stop Duterte in his campaign against drugs.
Such irregularities may have prompted Robredo to issue
a sweeping statement that “it’s not working”. And such statement caught the ire
of the President, which in turn prompted him to say that he is willing to commission
Robredo to be the drug czar of our country for six months, and that she will be
equipped with powers that would cut through all ant-drug activities of the
government.
What baffles me is whether or not Duterte is serious
with his plan, though he sounded quite serious about it.
My own humble assessment tells me that this is just an
impulsive reaction of Duterte towards Robredo’s remarks, an “eh di ikaw na ang
magaling” and “eh di ikaw na ang gumawa” kind of reaction (how childish Sir!).
Now, will the President push through with his offer?
Maybe YES. This can be a ploy by Malacañang in turning
the tables on Robredo, to see if she can do any better if she will be the one
to lead the government’s war against drugs. If she is claiming that it is a
failure, then might as well pass the baton to her by all means so that she can
prove her mettle, and contribute something to our society in the process (finally!).
On the other hand, maybe NO. The President is wise
enough not to entrust a very delicate matter to an individual in the person of
Robredo, who has below zero knowledge and experience in handling such matter. Furthermore,
her “leadership” may take a soft stance on the war against drugs, in order to appease
the Commission on Human Rights and most especially those international bodies
(which she loves dearly) that are highly critical of Duterte’s way of eradicating
our drug problem. As a consequence, more drugs might proliferate, and the
structures upon which Duterte built his unprecedented war on drugs might collapse
hastily.
You don’t want this to happen before your eyes Mr. President, do you?
So please Mr. President. You cannot be serious. You
would not want all governmental efforts that were invested in your war against
drugs be put to waste.
The woman is not capable. She can’t even handle her
own thought process, much less our country's drug problem.
