Dear Ariadna,
We know
how overwhelmingly bad you felt when the crown was taken from you, and was
given to the rightful winner who is our very own Pia Wurtzbach. And with this,
we and the rest of the world sympathize with you.
Nobody
wanted it to happen. It was a very unfortunate circumstance, with both you and
Pia at the receiving end. You were made to believe that you had it, and Pia was
made to believe that she lost it. A costly human error caused undue pain to the
two of you. Not just to the two of you, but to two countries as well – your
country Colombia, and our country the Philippines.
Yes, our
country won the crown, but in a very controversial and unceremonious manner.
They say, however, that at the end of the day what matters is that Pia won the
title, and that she has one year to cherish every inch of her victory. Never
mind if she was robbed of “that” moment and was not able to do the traditional
Miss Universe walk. And never mind if Pia’s victory caused a division between
those misses who sympathized with you and cheered “Colombia” repeatedly after
her crowning, and those misses who were simply happy for her.
But our
happiness is not that absolute, knowing that an equally beautiful lady on the
other side of the globe is unhappy and cannot move on from what happened to
her.
We perfectly understand what you have been through. It was very cruel. But
things happen for a reason. We may not know now why it happened, but in God’s
perfect timing, we will.
Let go
of the "crown" since the more you cling to it, the more that you will
be hurt. Start to move on, and treat what happened to you with all positivity,
grace and humility. Do not allow such incident to define you as a person, and
the course of your life after it.
We wish
you well, Ariadna.
With much love,
Philippines
Dear Tristan: I don’t think it’s right to accuse Ariadna of “clinging” to Pia’s crown even if she showed a great deal of disappointment, nor is it the right message the country (Phil.) should be sending to Miss Colombia. It was all Steve Harvey’s fault, who, in spite of his post-pageant apologetic tweets, came completely unprepared for the event, at the smallest, host it. Right, it was Steve who, without meaning it, broke Ariadna’s heart, not anyone else, least of all, Pia, whose heart Steve might have broken as well. But no, the issue isn’t about Ariadna “clinging” to Pia’s crown or Pia taking away from Ariadna what was “rightfully” already Miss Colombia’s, BUT MR. HARVEY’S CLANGER that led to the whole kerfuffle. (Read my previous posts over BPCI’s FB page, where I had wondered why media would repeatedly make it look as if Miss Guttierrez had been robbed of something she already owned, and that for some reason, some of the responsibility must rest on Miss Wurtzbach’s shoulders, grabbing back the crown on the ground that “she saw it first,” if this was Walmart during a Black Friday.) We have nothing to apologize for, or Pia.
