YOU DON'T DO THAT TOO WILLY

Last February 28, Willie Revillame unceremoniously interrupted a segment of his show to let off some steam. On “his” stage, the program host berated Ethel Booba and Ate Gay for their not so sportsmanlike behavior when the two did not win in a contest on the show. All the complaining of the two mainstays allegedly took place backstage, and such incident did not sit well with Willie most especially when Ethel shouted at him. This infamous happening drove Willie to criticize them live on national television (it’s all over Youtube). Ethel and Ate Gay may have shown unpleasant behavior, but they do not deserve such outright condemnation from Willie. The latter narrated to his audience how and why he reprimanded the two comediennes, with his litany laced with hurtful words:

“Ang lalaki ng ulo niyo. You don’t do that to me dahil ako, binigyan ko kayo

ng lahat ng pagkakataon sa buhay. I am the producer, I am the host.”

“Ethel galing ka sa baba. Inaangat kita. Ganyan ang gagawin mo sa akin?

Mag-isip ka. Ate Gay, binibigayn kita ng break, ok?"

“Sino kayo? Mag-isip kayo! Mag-isip kayo dahil ako ang nagpapasuweldo

sa inyo. At hindi niyo dapat ginagawa ‘yan sa taong nagbibigay ng

magandang buhay sa inyo.”

These are just some of the on-air rants of Willie which caught my attention. Such words were uncalled for in my opinion. It is like slapping them with the thought that Willie possesses the hands that feed them, and that they should be deeply grateful to him. I perfectly understand if Willie was affronted with Ethel’s and Ate Gay’s unbecoming behavior, but he could have shown the two what proper and decent behavior mean by controlling his temper and talking to them in private. As their boss, you have the right to scold them for sure, but not the way you have done it.

You cannot do your own show Willie. You need people that will help you in the ratings department, and Ethel and Ate Gay are genuinely one of them. They are not perfect, and so are you. Your show is not the only program on TV where their talent can thrive. Do not perceive yourself as their savior who resurrected them from nowhere. Do not talk as if they will be nothing without you. Ate Gay just recently had a full-house concert at the SM MOA Arena, in case you have forgotten. As comediennes, Ethel Booba and Ate Gay are often laughed at, ridiculed and all. They are not superstars and may not be as good looking as the others. But this does not mean though, that they should be treated shabbily, for they are human beings too.

YOU DON'T DO THAT TO THEM, AND TO ANYONE.......
